Skull and red roses on the thigh
Neo-trad · Thigh · Mixed · Photo
A large grey-shaded human skull sits at the centre of the design, with two red roses above and below it and a pale daisy to the right. The skull is rendered with soft greyscale shading and the roses with bold red tones and darker shadows. The tattoo fills the thigh, with the dark edge of a garment at the top of the frame and a wooden floor and chair in the background.

Dear Wren,

The rose garden at Harrowmere has run wild since the frost, and Master Elsing says the Queen wants it cut back before the Midsummer procession. I went out with the shears yesterday and found a skull in the bed beneath the old red roses, half sunk in the leaf mould, with a pale daisy growing through one eye socket. Nobody here will say whose it is. The gardeners cross themselves and go back to the kitchen.
I carried it to the chapel in my apron because I could not leave it in the mud. Father Aldous turned it over in his hands for a long time and then laughed, which I did not expect. He said the kings of Harrowmere planted roses over their dead so the thorns would keep the crows off, and that the red was the only colour the garden was allowed in winter. Then he told me the daisy was the younger princess who died last spring, though I think he was only teasing me.
I have buried it under the eastern wall, where the sun lands first. Tell Mother I am eating properly and have not been bitten by anything worse than the stable cat.
Your loving brother, Tobin
