Fine line black heart with an arrow through it and the words Las Vegas, tattooed on the side of the ribs of a person with pink hair.

Small heart and arrow tattoo on the ribs

Fine line · Ribs · Black and grey · Photo

A small black outline of a heart with an arrow passing through it, with the words LAS VEGAS written across the heart in thin lettering. The linework is delicate and even, with no shading, and the tattoo is set against warm skin in a shallow, softly lit night scene. The composition is a close, partial view of the back and side, with a sequinned outfit and pink hair filling the rest of the frame.

Then I found the postcard in the glovebox. Your father, aged twenty-two, grinning under a sign that read Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas, and on the back in his looping hand: Next season we go west, and we do not come back on the bus. He never did go west. I left the heart alone after that, because I could not bring myself to paint over a promise a man had meant so much.

I've enclosed the postcard. Come and collect the door before the scrapman does, and bring those old sequins from the finale costumes. We might find there's one more show left in us. Love, Aunt Nell.
