Small line tattoo on upper back
Fine line · Back · Black and grey · Photo
A woman is photographed from behind, with her dark hair pinned up and her face turned away from the camera. A small group of short, thin black strokes sits on her upper back, just below the nape of the neck and near the spine. The ink is solid black with no shading, set against a white off-shoulder top and a blurred green outdoor background.

Dear Tomas,
Keep reading
The gull that nested under the boathouse eaves has gone, and so has the last of the paraffin, so I have been reading the tide tables by candle like a nun. The post boat came Tuesday with your letter folded inside the bread wrapper. I read it twice standing in the doorway, then sat on the step where the wind couldn't get at the page.
You asked whether I still keep count. I do. Every morning I take the chalk from the tin by the stove and put a short stroke on the inside of the cupboard door, four upright and one lying across them when the week is done. Mr Fenn at the mainland office thinks it's a grocer's habit. I have not corrected him.
Last Thursday the swell came up white over the north skerry and I made nine strokes without stopping, though there was no sense in it. The count is not for the boat. It is so that when it does come I can say with some honesty how long I waited, and nobody on the mainland will believe me unless I can show them the door.
Write back. Tell me the lamp on Greystane is still lit, and whether your wife has forgiven you for the dog.
Yours, Ada
