Snake skeleton wrapped around a thigh
Thigh · Black and grey · Photo
A snake skeleton is tattooed around the outer thigh, with the skull and jaw at the front and the vertebrae and tail curving around the leg. The linework is dark and detailed, with grey shading on the bones to give them depth. The skin tone and thigh fill the frame against a soft, plain background.

He found it in the skip behind the old natural history room at the comprehensive, bleached white and light as a pencil. Nobody had the heart to tell him it belonged to the school. He wound the vertebrae round the banister of block C the night the power went, and in the dark it looked as if the building had grown a ribcage of its own. Terrence swore it was hunting the rats in the bin chute. Maybe it was. What I know is that on the night the boiler went out for good, the skeleton slid off the rail, dropped four floors, and laid itself across the threshold of flat 19 like a garter, the tail curled back towards the stairs as though it meant to return. Nobody on that landing ever stepped over it. They went round, the long way, and that's how you know a bone is still alive.
