Star Wars full sleeves on both arms

Realism · Shoulder · Colour · Photo

Two full sleeves run from shoulder to wrist on a bare-chested man, filled with Star Wars imagery including a stormtrooper, R2-D2, a Han Solo figure, a Darth Vader style helmet and the Millennium Falcon. The figures are rendered with smooth shading and detailed highlights against blue, red and purple space backdrops. Bold colour dominates across both arms, and the composition is arranged so the characters sit across the forearms and upper arms.

Sit down and stop picking at that onion, Tobin, because this is the bit where the sea gets serious. You know the Meridian Rose, the coaster laid up in Falmouth? Her cook was a fellow called Dai Morrow, and he had one rule in that galley: nothing leaves the stove unless the lamp is lit in the cabin below. Forty years he kept it.

One winter a boy came aboard off the Swansea train carrying a canvas roll and nothing else. He'd been apprenticed to a painter who worked on the dockers, and he wanted to paint the whole sky down a docker's sleeve, planets and helmets and all. Dai gave him the bunk over the potato store and asked no questions.

Each night the boy sat under the swinging lamp with his pots of red and ultramarine and painted a little more. Helmets with the visors shut like sleeping eyes. A blue planet with a dish bitten out of its face. A small white droid beeping at nothing, tucked in beside a hunk of freighter. The galley smelled of fried bread and turpentine, and Dai would stir the stock and tell him which blue looked like a bruise and which looked like sea glass.

Come spring, the boy went ashore with the work done, and Dai found the roll left behind on the bunk. Inside was one last painting, the Falcon no bigger than a biscuit, and pinned beneath it a pencil note: For Dai, who kept the lamp lit. Tell that one at the next sea, Tobin, and then get that onion in the pan.
