Teal and blue mandala on the thigh

Geometric · Thigh · Colour · Photo

A symmetrical mandala fills most of the frame, built from radiating petals, scrolls and a dotted central medallion. Bold black outlines define the shapes, with stippled dots and soft grey shading inside the teal and blue fills. Teal and turquoise dominate the palette, with white highlights and a dark leather seat visible behind the limb.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

The hydroponic bay hums at the pitch that means the pumps are working, and you have been standing under the great rosette for twenty minutes, watching the valves open in their order. Eight petals, then sixteen, then the outer scroll that Imke drew the year before she went into the cold dock. Nobody aboard the Tessaly has asked why the flowers sit in that pattern. The manual says only that the bloom lattice maximises light per leaf, and you have accepted that the way you accept the sealed hatch at the end of corridor C.

Today the dotted centre is wrong. Three of the hub nodes have gone dark, and the nutrient spray pulses against the medallion instead of spilling evenly across it. You climb the service ladder with a torch in your teeth and a patch kit on your belt. From the gantry you see what Imke must have seen: the whole ring is a clock face, the teal beds are the hours, and each white bloom counts the days since its planting. Someone has scratched a fourteen beside the hub in grease pencil, decades ago.

You replace the nodes one by one. The dots come back in pale blue, the way they were meant to be. When the last valve clicks, light sweeps the rings clockwise, the petals open in their proper sequence, and for the first time this shift the mandala looks like it is breathing rather than waiting.

You write a number on the gantry rail, then add one beneath it, because the bay is still running and somebody has to keep count.
