Three sea turtles with bubbles on an ankle
Ankle · Black and grey · Photo
Three sea turtles swim diagonally up the leg, each drawn as a black outline with a domed shell divided into hexagonal scutes, flippers and a small head. Small outlined bubbles and irregular shapes surround the turtles, which are shown in plain line work with no shading or fill. The tattoo is in black ink only and sits against a warm skin tone on a dark background.

The biggest one stopped right by my wellies and looked at me with an old face, all wrinkles round the eyes, and blew a bubble out of its nose. It was the size of a marble and it floated up past my ear and popped. Mum says turtles don't do that, but I saw it, and so did Oscar, who wet himself laughing and then went quiet when he realised it was true.
They are going to lay their eggs under the marram grass by the car park, where the council put the rope up. I have written the number on the back of my hand in biro so I can ring the Marine Trust in the morning. Don't tell Mum I said it, but I think they chose us because we were the only ones still awake.
Love from Ffion. P.S. Please send the good torch. The batteries in mine are dead and I need it for the night watch.
