Traditional-style arm tattoos with rose
Traditional · Upper arm · Mixed · Photo
A woman in a black racerback vest top with a white slogan printed across the front is shown from the chest to the hips, with her face out of frame. Her arm carries several tattoos in a traditional style with bold outlines, including a red rose and a figure on the upper arm and a darker design on the forearm. The tattoos are mostly coloured with red and green, and the plain black top keeps the focus on the arms.

Dear Ronnie,

You will not believe what Mr Pilling did to the back room of the Feathers on Saturday. Mother thinks he was only fixing the gas, but I saw the bear go up on the wall before the shutters came down, a great brown thing with its paw lifted as if it was about to tell the whole street off. He had a tin of ink open on the bar, red as a pillar box, and green enough to make the bottles look sick.
Vera from the laundry was first in the chair. She said she wanted a rose, nothing fancy, and he told her roses were for people who had nothing to prove. He gave her a red one anyway, petals fat and leaves like paper boats, with a black line round it as thick as a bootlace. She didn't flinch once. She just bit down on a folded hanky and stared at the ceiling as though the lamp had said something rude.
Then Stanley Hatch came in off the Pembroke boat, rolling up his sleeve before he'd even sat down. He wanted a girl, a proper pin-up in a green bathing costume, and the little bear on his forearm for luck. Pilling said the bear was the better bargain. Stanley said he'd take both and paid in shillings stacked on the counter like a bet.
I'm writing because I've decided to go down there next Saturday. Don't tell Father. Bring me that brass anchor pin from the drawer. I want to see whether the ink hurts as much as Vera says it does.
Love, Dot
