Black fine line script reading walk by faith with a small cross, tattooed on the side of a bare ankle and foot resting on dark leather.

Walk by faith script on ankle

Fine line · Ankle · Black and grey · Photo

A close photograph of a foot resting on dark leather, showing the words walk by faith written in cursive script on the outer ankle, with a small cross after the final word. The linework is thin and even, and the ink is solid black with no shading or colour. The tattoo sits to one side of the frame, with a delicate anklet visible on the other ankle at the top of the image.

Dear Win,

The hem came down on the green frock this morning, so I sat on the back step with the needle while Dad's bicycle ticked past the gate. Mother says you won't be home before the harvest supper, so I'm sending this up with the Thursday carrier. It should reach Leeds about the time you've stopped being homesick and started being cross about it.

Mr Ashby at the chapel has asked me to copy out the notices again because his hand shakes now. I did the Sunday one in the fair copy book, and at the bottom I wrote the verse Mother keeps on the kitchen dresser: walk by faith, not by sight. I thought of you when I wrote it. You always did want to see the bottom of the stairs before you'd put your foot on them.

The train fare is in the tin under the brass hare, two pounds ten, which is every penny of the Christmas club I never told you about. Don't argue. Go to the interview in your good shoes, and when the man asks if you're steady, say yes and mean it. You are steady, Win. You only need reminding.

Post it on Thursday, Ada.
