You got this handwritten lettering
Lettering · Black and grey · Flash
A handwritten script phrase reading "you got this" is drawn in white continuous strokes on a plain black background. The linework is even and monoline, with looping ascenders and a long underline flourish under "this". The composition is centred with no shading, and the image has no colour beyond the white line and black ground.

Every morning I wrote it on the greaseproof paper before folding it round Dennis's corned beef, the same three words in pencil, and every morning he pretended not to read them. Mam taught me the joined hand at the chapel school in Ferryhill. All loops and tall ascenders, she said, so the letters look like they're reaching for something. I pressed hard enough that the lead shone, and I gave the last word a long lazy tail underneath, because that was how I wanted it to look when he opened the tin.

The winter the water came into the Eldon seam, the shift whistle sounded at six and Dennis didn't come up with the rest. We stood at the pit head gate with our coats over our nightdresses. Mrs Hobbs had a flask and nothing to put in it. I had the tin lid in my hands and a stub of pencil in my pocket, and I thought that if I wrote the words again I'd be lying to the paper, so I just turned the lid over and over until my thumbs went numb.
He came up a little after seven, grey to the eyebrows, with the tin under his arm as if it had never left him. He didn't say anything at first. He unfolded the paper on the wet cobbles and ran his thumb along the last word, slowly, the way you'd check a wall for damp. 'Read that at the face,' he said. 'Had to explain it to Walter. He reckons it's a horse's name.'
We pinned it above the range, where the steam could get at it and the paper went the colour of weak tea. The pencil has nearly gone now, but I know exactly where the tail of that last word runs, the way you know the bottom stair in the dark.
