Blue flowers on branches across the side
Botanical · Ribs · Colour · Photo
A cluster of blue flowers with yellow centres grows along thin brown branches that curve from the side of the waist up towards the ribs. The petals are shaded with lighter and darker blue, and the stems and leaves are drawn in brown with soft shading. The design sits on a bare, slightly wet back-to-side view of the body, with a patterned bikini and a dark pool setting in the background.

Dear Tomasz,
Keep reading
They held me at the crossing booth for nearly four hours, and the officer kept turning over the little bundle of pressed flowers I had tucked inside my passport. He asked whether they were medicinal. I told him they were forget-me-nots from the bank below Aunt Irena's orchard, and that I had picked them the morning before she was buried, so I could not leave them behind in a country that would only see them as weeds.
He did not laugh, but he did not stamp the page either until a second officer came over with a magnifying glass and squinted at the yellow centres as if they might be a code. In the end they let me through with the flowers, though the paper they were wrapped in had gone soft and blue at the edges, the colour bleeding into my fingers.
Here is what I did not tell them. Irena made me promise to drop a sprig into the first river I crossed after the border, so the water would carry something of hers out to the sea. I have done it already, at the bridge below the customs post, and watched the petals turn over and go under before the lorries started up behind me.
Write when you can. The brown branches I drew for you on the back of the form have come out well, I think. Keep the kettle warm for me.
Love, Vera
