A grey boxing glove with laces and a bow sits at the bottom of the design, with a yellow ribbon rising behind it. The words Fight Like a Girl run across the top in black script lettering. The glove is shaded in grey with black outlines, while the ribbon has yellow and green tones, and the photograph is taken indoors against a plain skin background.

The rain had been coming off the moor for three days when Nell's mother sent her to the Thursday market with a pair of gloves that were not for sale. They were old leather, cracked at the knuckles, with a yellow ribbon knotted through the laces of each cuff. Nell carried them under her coat across the cobbles of Cold Harbour, past stalls sagging with water and cattle lowing in the pens, until she reached the square where the men gathered to watch Harl Dunmore fight anyone who would stand before him.

Harl had beaten every man in three parishes and he had never once thought a girl worth the trouble. He looked at the gloves, then at her wet boots, and laughed so loudly that the pig-dealer turned round. "Fight like a girl, then," he said, and the crowd took it up as a joke, and so Nell pulled the gloves on and tied the ribbons tight.
She did not rush him. The ground was slick and Harl was heavy, and every time he swung he slid a little further across the stones. Nell stepped aside, stepped back, and let the water do the work. When his boot finally skidded out from under him and he sat down hard in a puddle, the square went quiet, and she unlaced the gloves and set them down on the wet stone. "Mend them for me," she said to the nearest man, "and send the bill to Harl." The ribbons were still yellow, and they still held their bows.
