Cat grin and script quote on the inner wrist
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A black fine line tattoo on the inner wrist shows a crescent shape with stripes, like a wide grin, placed above the words We're All Mad Here in flowing script. The linework is thin and even, with no shading, and the lettering is the main focus. The photograph is black and white, with the arm centred against a blurred, draped background.

Dora had the cat's grin half finished when the wind got under the tent sheet and rocked the ladder. She clung to the rail of the centre gallopers with one hand, brush in the other, and watched the canvas flap over the rest of the painted cat. "Children go quiet when they see it," he said. "Quiet is bad for trade."
She dabbed a white highlight onto one tooth and said nothing. The cat had been on the carousel since her grandmother's day, and nobody had complained until the vicar's boy came round with his mother and asked why a cat would grin when it was lost. Dora had told him the cat wasn't lost, only a bit mad, and so was the whole fair, and that was why people came.
On the last evening the lamps were lit and the ride turned slowly under the canvas. Sid stopped at the edge of the grass and looked up at the cat going round, grin first, through the coloured light. He didn't ask her to paint it out. He stood there until the music ran down, then took off his cap and went off to find his supper.
Dora packed her brushes in the order her grandmother had taught her and wrapped the lid of the paint tin in a rag. Behind her the cat came round again and again on its brass pole, grinning at nobody, until the generator coughed and the field went dark.
