Script verse tattoo on a foot
Lettering · Ankle · Black and grey · Photo
A black-and-white photograph of a long line of cursive script tattooed diagonally across the side of a foot near the ankle. The lettering has fine, even linework in solid black ink, and the final line reads as a verse reference, Psalms 3:5. The pale skin and dark background give the text strong contrast and keep the composition centred on the tattoo.

He had read it aloud at the window every morning, she said, as though checking the building was still standing. I had to look away then, out past the car park to the grey sky over the estate.
When I finished, she held the sheet up to the light and was quiet for a long time. Then she asked whether the tail of the final e could curl a little more, the way his had, and I said yes, and bent over the paper again until it did.
