Circular seal design in white line

Geometric · Black and grey · Flash

The image shows a circular seal built from thin white lines on a near-black background, with a large outer ring enclosing smaller circles, arcs and curved strokes. Each element is drawn as a single clean outline with small dots and open loops placed within the ring. The composition is symmetrical and centred, and it reads as a finished design rather than a photograph of skin.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

Dennis Mensah had kept the keys to Harrow Point for nineteen years, and in all that time nobody had asked him to open the sealed door on the thirty-first floor. Then the letter came, heavy cream stock pressed with a ring of circles, dotted arcs and open loops that looked like a clock someone had taken apart and put back together wrong. The management company called it a legal matter. The envelope called him by his first name and said the flat had been let to a tenant who did not exist.

He took the lift up at six, its lights buzzing, and stood in the corridor with the letter in his hand. The door had no number, only the same seal scratched into the paint. He pressed his palm to it and felt warmth, the way a radiator does after a night on, though the heating in the block had been off since March. Somewhere behind the wood a clock ticked to a rhythm that did not match the one in his chest.

He had expected dust or a squatter's mess. Instead the flat was swept and bare, one chair facing a window that looked out not on the car park but on a sky full of slow lights. On the table sat a brass dial stamped with the same ring, and beside it a note in neat handwriting: Keep it shut a little longer, Dennis. You were always good at waiting.

He understood then why the letter had his name on it. Years ago, as a boy on the stairs, he had been handed a small cold key by a tall stranger who told him to hold it until someone came back for it. He pocketed the dial, locked the door behind him and went down one flight at a time, counting the landings under his breath the way he had when he was small, and the ticking followed him all the way to the ground floor.
