Clock and roses pencil design
Neo-trad · Black and grey · Flash
A pencil drawing of a clock face with Roman numerals and hands, set on a band or strap, with two shaded roses and several leaves arranged around it. The linework is clean, with detailed pencil shading that gives the rose petals and the clock case depth. The design is shown in greyscale on a pale background with faint construction grid lines visible behind the subject.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
Sit closer, the lot of you, because the clock on the customs house wall has been wrong since the winter the river froze, and I will not tell this story with the wind getting in my mouth. You see the face there, the Roman numerals black on white, the hands pointing at nothing. Old Teodor who kept the crossing said the hour was a promise: whatever you were waiting for would come when the long hand reached the twelve. He said it to everyone who came through the gate with a cart and a lie in their coat.

A woman came one February with two roses wrapped in newspaper, pressed flat from a garden on the far bank, and she asked him to let her cross before the hour. Teodor counted her papers slowly. He had a daughter on the other side he had not seen in nine years, and he had a stamp in his drawer that could make the gate open or keep it shut, and he did neither. He turned the clock hand back a notch with his thumb, the way his father had taught him, and said the time was now whatever she needed it to be.
She crossed. The roses stayed on his desk, shedding petals onto the ledger, and by spring the newspaper they were wrapped in had gone the colour of weak tea. Nobody ever found the woman's name in the book. But on still nights the guards swear the clock ticks loud enough to hear from the bridge, and that the hour hand has never once moved forward since.
