Colourful traditional sleeve with an iPod on the wrist
Traditional · Forearm · Colour · Photo
A forearm covered in a full sleeve of bold, colourful tattoo work, with thick dark outlines around reds, yellows, greens and abstract swirling shapes. A silver iPod nano is strapped to the wrist, and a finger with small tattoos on its knuckles taps the screen in the foreground. The shot is close and centred on the arm and device, with the background softly out of focus.

He popped the back, blew on the battery contacts, and let the little screen wake. A cog icon blinked up, bright as a fairground, and behind it the wallpaper bloomed in ochre and jade, the wild swirling kind his nephew had painted on the shutter last summer before painting it over in a fit of doubt. Dilys leaned in. 'There,' she said. 'That one. Don't you dare delete it.'
It took him forty minutes with a magnifier and a tin of contact cleaner. Outside, the bus to Walthamstow came and went twice. When the wheel finally clicked true under her thumb, the playlist started mid-chorus, and she laughed so suddenly she had to sit down on the stool.
She paid in coins, counting them out in a neat line along the glass. 'Keep the tape,' she said. 'It's the only bit of him that never gave me any trouble.' She buckled the nano back onto her wrist and walked out, tapping the screen once as she went, as if to check it was still there.
