Crescent moon tattoo on the chest
Chest · Black and grey · Photo
A solid black crescent moon sits on the upper chest, below the collarbone, with a soft shadow at its edge. The moon is shown in close crop with a white vest and a car interior behind it. A gold metallic chevron design on the forearm appears to be a temporary tattoo, and the tattooed moon is the main subject.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
Teodor had worked the night barrier at Kessel Bridge for nineteen years, long enough to know that the moon over the customs hut kept its own hours. By twenty to three the lorries had thinned to two, and the sky above the sodium lamps held a single paring of light, dark-edged, as if someone had drawn it in one stroke and left the rest of the page blank.

The blue hatchback came up slowly with its headlights dipped. The woman at the wheel passed through a passport and a folded sheet of paper, then asked him, without taking her eyes off the road ahead, whether the moon was getting bigger or smaller. He told her smaller, it was on the wane. She said her grandmother had always claimed the opposite, that a thinning moon was a thing you could lose sleep over, and that she had been counting nights since the funeral.
The folded sheet was a deed for a house in a village too small for the map, its shutters painted with a crescent cut into each one. The paper had gone soft at the creases from being carried. Teodor read the notary's stamp twice and found the signature was still wet at one corner. "Stamp it twice," he said, because he had seen grief before, and it made people forget where they had put things.
He stamped it twice and handed it back. She drove under the barrier, and the red tail lights went small along the empty road. Teodor stayed in the hut and looked up again. The moon had not moved, but he could see now that its dark edge was only the sky keeping what the light had lent it, and he let the barrier rise for the next car without telling her which way the moon was really going.
