I found your crown in the bottom of the lost property tub on Thursday, tangled up in a PE jumper and a lanyard that still said Wellbeing Week. Mr Ashdown had been about to throw the whole lot out before the reunion committee rang about the tombola, and I stood in the caretaker's cupboard holding a little grey crown on a broken chain. I thought, that's Fiona Pratt's, she cried for a week when it went.

I'm not sure why I kept it. The pink charm was still on the ring, a tiny glass heart gone cloudy along one edge. We swapped them at the Easter fair in Year Nine, do you remember? You gave me the heart because I'd lent you my good pencil case, and I gave you nothing back, and you said that made us even. We were never even. I think I was always owing you something.

So I'm bringing it on Saturday, in an envelope with your name written in capitals so you can't pretend you don't know the handwriting. If you don't want it, leave it on the raffle table and I'll enter it for someone's nan.

Clasp it on yourself in the car park first, though. The hinge is fine. I checked it twice with the good pliers.
