Delta emblem outline tattoo
Fine line · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo is a delta or arrowhead emblem drawn in thin, slightly uneven black outline, with a small angular mark sitting in the open centre. It is in black ink only, with no shading or fill, and the image is taken close up so the emblem fills most of the frame against plain skin. Blue fabric is visible in the top left corner.

Things here are the same. Mr Pryce has painted the bakery door again, and the green is already going brown at the hinges. The lads from the aerodrome come in for buns on Thursdays and talk about the new delta-winged machines the way other men talk about cricket. Ada Hollins swears one flew over St Botolph's last week so low the windows hummed, and the vicar's wife fainted straight into the trifle.
I took your old drawing book down from the shelf last night. You had sketched that arrowhead on every page at the back, the outline thin and a bit wobbly, with a small hooked mark in the middle where you always said the pilot sits. I traced it onto the kitchen window with one finger, the glass fogged from the kettle, and Mum said I would have the pane out of its frame. I did not stop until the shape was complete.
Come home by the Lincoln road, not the coast one. When you land, tell me the shape of the sky from up there, that is all I want to know. Your loving sister, Joan.
