Black and white photo pair showing the script words Endless love tattooed in fine black lettering on a forearm.

Endless love script on forearms

Lettering · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo

Two black and white photographs side by side show the words Endless love written in flowing cursive script across the inner forearm. The left image is a close crop with bolder, larger lettering, while the right shows a smaller, finer version on a different arm. The ink is solid black with no shading, and the plain background keeps the focus on the lettering.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

Dilys had the brush loaded with black enamel before the rain stopped, because the Big Wheel had to be lettered by dusk and the sign-board was already propped against the generator van. Her father had painted the fair's banners for thirty years, and he had taught her the loops first, the way you learn to write your name before you learn to read it.

The ride was called Endless Love, though nobody on the circuit used the full name. They said the Wheel, or the Slow One, because it turned so gently that couples could sit in the cars for three full revolutions without saying a word. Dilys had wanted something brighter, red and gold with stars. Her father had insisted on script, thin and joined, the way his own mother had written letters from Cork.

She worked the E first, leaning over the board with her wrist lifted off the wood, and when she finished the last looping stroke of the final e she found her hand was steady for once. Behind her a boy in a borrowed anorak was asking whether the lights would come on before the storm. She didn't turn round.

That night the Wheel turned for the first time with its lettering still tacky and gleaming under the lamps. Dilys stood at the rope with her father's flask in her hands and watched the cars climb and fall, the words sliding past above them, and thought that some things were only meant to be read from underneath.
