Fine line heart and script on an ankle

Fine line · Ankle · Black and grey · Photo

A small tattoo of an outlined heart with a looping script letter sits on the inner ankle of a bare foot resting on a wooden floor. The linework is thin and fairly delicate, in black ink with grey tones, and the design is shown in soft natural light. A metal chain anklet is on the other ankle, and the toes have black nail polish.

I went through Mum's potting bench on Tuesday, looking for the twine. Under a tray of dead dahlia tubers I found her seed tin, the one with the dented lid. I sowed the stiffest ones in the cold frame, not expecting much, and this morning there were four green points lifting the soil, each with a skin of frost still on the leaves. I pushed a bamboo cane in beside the bed by the back path and tied a strip of old linen to it, the way she used to mark what was coming up.

Come home at Easter and see. Bring the good secateurs, the ones you borrowed in 2019 and never gave back.
