Fine line script tattoo on forearm and upper back
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo is a thin, single-line script that reads as a name with a small capital, shown in two photographs. The left photo shows it on the inner forearm beside a gold bracelet and the right shows it across the upper back below the hairline. The ink is solid black with no shading, and the images have a neutral, bright background.

Each evening he walks to the end of the mole and looks at the water as though it owes him a reply.

Mother's old quill is still in the box under the loom. I have been practising your name on the back of the tide tables, the way you taught me, letter by letter, pulling the long tail of the M down until it nearly touches the next word. My hand is better than yours ever was. Do not tell the priest I said so.
Last week a fishwife came up from Scarrow with a shell and a story. She said a sailor with your ring on his thumb had drowned off the western reef and been buried in the sand with a blue stone under his tongue. I did not believe her, and I sent her away with bread. But this morning I found in the box a scrap of paper in your hand that I had never seen, folded small, with only one word on it: come.
I am coming, then. I have written that word out a hundred times and it looks more like a promise every time. If the wind holds, the Morrow boat will carry me as far as the headland. Light a fire on the rock so I can read the way.
