Floral sleeve tattoo on an arm in bed
Botanical · Forearm · Colour · Photo
A forearm and upper arm are covered in a colourful floral and leafy sleeve, with flowers and leaves in red, orange, green and blue outlined in black. The arm rests across a rumpled white bed beside a second person in dark clothing, and the tattoo fills most of the frame. The linework is bold and the colour is applied in solid areas with some soft shading.

Every spring the bramble came over the wall at Thornhay before anyone had asked it to, and every spring Mrs Oddie went out with her shears and cut it back to the stones. The village said she was hard on it. She said the hedge had been planted for a purpose and would keep to it or be cut.

The summer her son went to the coast for work, the bramble did not wait for her. It came over the wall and up the gatepost and round the water butt, and by August it had put out flowers the colour of a fox's coat, red and orange, with leaves so green they looked wet even in drought. Blue came too, a small blue flower that opened only before six in the morning, so nobody but her saw it. She stopped cutting. The postman remarked on it. The vicar's wife brought round a seed cake and asked after the boy.
In September a stranger in a grey coat stood at the gate and asked, politely, whether the lane went through to the river. Mrs Oddie told him it did, and that he would find the water higher than he expected. He thanked her and went, and the vines followed him down the lane with their tendrils out, the way a dog follows a man it has decided to keep.
Her son came home at Michaelmas with a cough and no wages. He found the gate unlatched and the wall gone under green, and his mother at the table peeling apples with a blade she had never used on anything but thorns. "You let it go," he said. "I let it grow," she said, and gave him the first slice.
