Intertwined tattooed arms and hands
Neo-trad · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
Several arms and hands are tangled together, covered in black and grey tattoos. A female figure within an ornate scrolled frame runs along one forearm, while a compass with floral detail sits on an upper arm and small lettering marks the fingers. The shading is soft and detailed throughout, and the composition is close and layered, with no faces visible.

The dough has been resting since three, and you are the only soul on this stretch of the high street with flour on the inside of the window. Your hands know the work before your head catches up. The van from the mill is late again, so you knead alone with the radio murmuring about rain in Leeds and the oven ticking as it climbs toward heat.

Your uncle Tomasz kept a brass compass on the wall above the proving cupboard, its needle always swinging toward a window that faced the wrong way. He said a baker steers by the wrists, not the clock, and that you could find your way through any dark kitchen if you trusted the feel of the dough. You thought it was an old man's joke until the morning he left you the shop, the lease, and a drawer of unpaid invoices tied up in string.
By half four the first tray is in. You slide the peels under the batch, dust the benches, and write the day's bread on the slate in chalk: rye, soda, the plain white for the nurse who comes in on Tuesdays. Beside it you draw a small compass, one point north, the others left loose.
Outside the sky goes from ink to the colour of weak tea. The van pulls up, its headlights sweeping the glass, and you unlock the door before the driver can knock.
