Forearm sleeve with wrist script and finger lettering
Botanical · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
The photograph shows a woman with her hands clasped behind her back against a black dress and a bright blue background. A forearm sleeve includes leaves, a feather, a crown, a diamond shape and a honeycomb pattern, with a dice-like geometric element near the centre. Script appears on the inside of the wrist and in small characters across the fingers, all in black ink with fine, clean linework and light shading.

They played on the bollards with the gulls watching. He won the first throw, and the second, and by noon he had her ring and half her stock. She made the last throw herself, a cold wet double six that clattered off the stone and rolled straight into a gap between two planks where the tide came in and out. She went down on her knees and reached after it, and her fingers came up with a single feather, pale and damp, stuck to a square of pressed leaf.
The stranger was gone when she stood up. In the morning the tide had taken the stall's awning but left the ring on the bollard, and beside it a sheet of paper folded into a honeycomb of six-sided cells, each one with a word written inside in careful ink. She opened the first cell and read her own name. The rest, she decided, could wait until the honey ran out.
