Framed mountain scene with poppies on thigh
Traditional · Thigh · Colour · Photo
The tattoo shows a rectangular photo-style frame containing a sunset over layered hills, with a dark pine tree in the foreground. Three orange poppies with yellow centres and green leaves surround the frame, all outlined in bold black linework with flat, solid fills. The colour palette is mainly orange, red, yellow and green, and the design is centred on the upper leg with a partly visible second tattoo at the right edge.

Her son Tom was nineteen the summer he decided he would. He borrowed a box camera from the chemist, a tin of matches and his father's old army coat, and said he'd be back before the milk. He wasn't back before the milk. He wasn't back before the harvest supper either, and the constable was already on his second pint about it when the lad came down the lane at dusk with poppies stuck through his buttonhole, red as hot coals, and a face like he'd seen the edge of the world and found it pleasant.
He never would say what he'd found up there. He only laughed and handed over a photograph still damp at the corners, of a single pine standing on the crest with the mountains rolling away behind it, and the sun going down as if it had a bill to settle with the earth. Mrs Farrow looked at it a long time. Then she framed it, and every evening after that she stood the frame where the orange light from the window would fall across it, and she said some places are only worth going to once, and the trick is knowing when you have seen enough.
