Full sleeves on both arms
Japanese · Upper arm · Mixed · Photo
A person in a white sleeveless shirt and loose white shorts walks through a bright studio, with the lower face and head cropped out of frame. Both arms are covered in full sleeve tattoos with dense shading in black and grey, combined with pink and red roses and a dragon-like creature on the left arm. The background is plain and white, so the tattoo work is the main focus of the composition.

Mind the step, it's loose, same as everything else on this lot. You want the dragon, and I'll give you the dragon, but you'll have to sit through the roses first, because the roses came first, the way they always do.

Old Mrs Vell ran the Calloway Travelling Players out of a green lorry and a tent with more patches than canvas. Her husband had painted a dragon up the centre pole of the big top, coiling round it with scales picked out in silver that had gone the colour of weak tea. Every spring the town boys climbed the guy ropes to get a look at it, and every autumn the rain took a little more of it.
By the summer the lions were sold and the trapeze had snapped in Carlisle. Mrs Vell sat at the back of the empty ring with a pot of rose cuttings on her knee and told the last two performers she'd keep the show going as long as one rose bloomed on the lorry roof. Pink ones, red ones, the sort that smell of pennies and rain.
Well. The dragon never flew again, and the tent came down in October. But the roses on the lorry bloomed right through the frost, and the strongman's boy, who'd been sweeping sawdust for three seasons, cut one and pinned it to his collar and walked out of the gate without looking back. Nobody saw the dragon after that, but there's still a rose on that lorry, if you know where to look.
