Ganesh line drawing designs
Black and grey · Flash
A grid of fifteen labelled drawings of the Hindu deity Ganesh, each showing him seated, standing or in a stylised pose with his elephant head. Most are black linework with some areas filled in solid black, while one image is in grey. The designs are arranged in rows on a plain white background, with a filename printed beneath each one.

"Pick one," he said. "For Sunita's arm. She wants the big sitting one with the lotus, but that's a tracing job, and she'll get it wrong. Look at this." He tapped the grey one in the corner, the one that looked as if someone had breathed on the page. "Light touch. Let the paper do the work."
Meera looked for a long time. The thick-lined ones were bold and easy to read from across a room, the way the old school notices had been. But her eye kept returning to the small one in the middle of the third row, with two black bars at its edges like the curtains of a shrine pulled half back. The head was tilted as if listening. The trunk curled into a question mark that never quite finished.
"That one," she said. "It's the only one that looks like it's still deciding." Dev laughed, then stopped, and folded the sheet along the crease where the filenames ran. On the back, in biro, he wrote G-04 the way Mrs Tandy used to make them label their folders, and slid it across to her.
