Geometric cat and realistic cat tattoos
Geometric · Forearm · Mixed · Photo
The left tattoo is a cat built from angular, faceted shapes with bold black outlines, filled with pastel pink, yellow, green and blue. The right tattoo is a shaded portrait of a tabby-style cat seated within an ornate gold scrollwork frame, with soft grey shading and muted colour on the fur. Both sit on skin, with small star marks visible at the lower left of the left image.

The rain has been coming sideways across the fish stalls since dawn, and you have pulled the tarpaulin tight over your crate of offcuts. Mrs Okafor's grey cat has been sitting on the lid for an hour, unbothered, watching the puddles fill the cobbles. You sell scraps of old window glass salvaged from condemned chapels and terraces, and the cat seems to think the pieces are its own reflection, turning its head to check each one.

Tobias from the cheese stall calls it a lucky animal. You say nothing and keep rearranging the panes. Then a woman in a green coat comes asking for something to match a broken fanlight above her front door. You lift a shard of pink-and-yellow glass to the grey light, and there is the cat's face in it, all angles and clean lines, a cat put together from a hundred small slivers of sky. She buys the piece and runs off with it under her umbrella. The cat does not move.
Near closing the rain stops, and the gutters run gold from the streetlamps. The cat stands, stretches, and walks off down the aisle between the crates, stepping over each puddle as though it were a pane of glass it trusted to hold. You follow it with your eyes until it becomes a small moving shape of colour against the wet stones.
In the morning the crate is empty. On the top pane you find a single pawprint in pale yellow dust, the kind that comes off old lead came when you knock it loose. You rub it with your thumb and it does not wipe away, so you leave it there and open the stall.
