Metallic gold and silver diamond motifs with chain detail across the chest and midriff of a tanned torso, in a bikini top.

Gold diamond chest and midriff design

Chest · Colour · Photo

A close crop of a tanned torso wearing a black bikini top, with nested gold and silver diamond motifs on the chest and a smaller diamond below the sternum. Fine gold chains run from the neck and loop across the midriff, and the metallic shapes have a glittered, flash-style finish. The image is warm in tone with the hair and a patterned kimono-style garment framing the edges.

Dilys had sold the last of the brass chains before the lunch rush, but the diamond piece still sat in its tray under the strip light, nested triangles of gold and silver flaking at the edges like old sequins. Nobody bought it because nobody could say what it was for. Her son said it looked like a windscreen sticker. Her neighbour from the fourteenth floor of Kestle Court said it looked like the lift doors at the bottom of the block, all those rectangles folding into each other.

She had bought the box lot off a man who cleared flats for a living, three hundred pieces in a biscuit tin, most of them tarnished past saving. She kept the diamonds because they caught the light when she carried the tin up the stairwell, past the mural of a heron someone had painted over twice. On the landing she would hold one up to the window and watch the gold go dark and then bright again as the clouds moved over the car park.

On Thursday a girl came through the market hall with her phone held out in front of her, asking whether anyone sold anything that would throw back a camera flash. Dilys took the diamond from the tray and hung it on the pegboard beside the lamp. The girl laughed, said it was exactly right, and asked if the chain could be shortened. Dilys fetched the pliers from under the counter and worked the links one at a time while the girl held her breath and then exhaled.

After the girl had gone, Dilys wrapped the empty tray in tissue and opened the receipt book. Under the date she wrote one diamond, gold, sold, and then sat for a while with the pen still in her hand, listening to the shutters going down along the aisle.
