Metallic geometric temporary tattoos on hand and chest
Geometric · Hand · Colour · Photo
A woman wearing a black bikini top and a dark floral kimono stands on sand. Silver and gold metallic triangle designs are applied to the back of her hand, and a large gold diamond motif with a metallic chain sits on her chest and midriff. The flat metallic finish, bright highlights and tight close-up framing dominate the composition.

The gold always came off the sheet a shade too yellow in April, and Hanna blamed the sea air, though her grandfather had blamed the tin. She sat at the trestle under the chandlery awning with a brush, a roll of backing paper and a pair of nail scissors, cutting diamonds the size of a thumbnail, then triangles, then the long stepped lozenges that the summer visitors pointed at on the card rack and asked for by number.

Her grandfather had made lures for the mackerel boats from offcuts of lacquered tin, and he taught her that a triangle is the only shape that leaves no waste when you lay it against its own edge. "Everything else leaves crumbs," he said, sliding a sheet across the bench. She still cut that way, nesting one point into the next until the paper looked like the scales of something that had swum up the harbour steps and decided to stay.
The stranger came on a Thursday, when the wind had dropped and the boats were in. She wanted a single diamond and nothing else, and she wanted it silver. Hanna had only one silver sheet left, bought for a wedding that never placed its order. She cut it carefully, laid it on the inside of the woman's wrist, and pressed the damp cloth down until the edges sealed to the skin.
Next morning the woman came back, cross. The shine had gone flat. Hanna walked her down to the slipway, where the sun was already striking the water, and held the wrist up to the light. The diamond flared white across the harbour wall, a little path of brightness that broke and rejoined as the swell moved. "It only shines when something's moving," Hanna said. The woman looked at the wall, then at her wrist, and for once she didn't ask for her money back.
