Gold metallic lace hand tattoo

Hand · Colour · Photo

A hand with nude nails rests in front of a gold phone, showing gold metallic temporary tattoos. A lace-like ornamental motif with small dark accents runs from the wrist across the back of the hand and onto a finger, with a band of similar lace and a row of gold chevrons on the wrist. The ink is a glossy metallic gold, set against warm skin tones and a soft, neutral background.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

The stencil had been cut for a wedding that never happened, and Ruth was still muttering at it when the courier rang the bell on Chalice Lane. Her grandmother's card index held forty years of lace patterns, each one pricked onto waxed paper and filed by number, and number 117 had a kink in its scallops where the knife had slipped in 1979. Ruth had decided the kink was a feature. Nobody else in Birmingham was still cutting by hand.

Gold leaf was her trade now, the kind a jeweller could only afford by the sheet, and she took the orders nobody else wanted. A hairdresser wanted a sunburst on her till. A retired postman wanted his late wife's chevrons on the lid of a biscuit tin. Ruth had one rule: every design was tested on the inside of her own wrist before it went out. The test always came off with a damp cotton pad and a sigh, because the metallic sheen clung to skin far longer than any customer believed it would.

The courier was a lanky boy with a cracked phone and a sealed box. Inside was a commission from a jeweller's widow in Solihull who wanted lace running across the back of a silver ring box, with a band of chevrons for the lid. Ruth read the note twice. It asked for the old pattern, the kinked one, exactly as it was. Apparently the widow's husband had proposed to her with that scallop, sketched on a napkin.

Ruth pressed the stencil down, dabbed the gold size, and laid the leaf. When she lifted the paper, the kink came up perfect in shining metal. She rubbed a little on her wrist to check the sheen, then left it there, the last chevron still bright when she locked up at six.
