Handbag and PICTURE IT banner on upper arm
Traditional · Upper arm · Mixed · Photo
A bold tattoo of a dark grey handbag with a textured weave and an orange beaded handle, wrapped by a red ribbon banner reading PICTURE IT. The outlines are heavy and black, with simple shading in grey and flat red and orange fills. The design is centred on the skin with a small music note tattoo just below it.

Mistress Hesper had sewn bags for the Queen of Vellmoor for thirty years, and in all that time nobody had asked her for a bag that could hold a secret. The girl wanted a satchel that could carry a memory. Hesper laughed until she saw that the girl was serious. She wove the body from dark reed, tight as a basket, and threaded a handle of orange beads, one for every week the girl had been away from home. When the red ribbon was tied across the front, the girl read the words aloud, PICTURE IT, and frowned. 'That is not a promise,' she said. 'That is a command.'
'It is both,' said Hesper. 'The bag only keeps what you can see clearly enough to name.'
The girl went out into the rain with it under her arm. Hesper hummed the tune her mother used to sing, the one with a note that rose like a question, and did not look up when the bell over the door rang again three days later. Then it rang, and there was the girl, soaked, holding the bag open. Inside lay a single sheet of paper with a drawing of Hesper's own workshop: the lamp, the awl, and the cat asleep on the bench.
'You drew it,' Hesper said.
'No,' said the girl. 'I only pictured it. The bag did the rest.'
