Harry Potter finger tattoos and a knot design

Lettering · Hand · Black and grey · Photo

This collage shows several small tattoos on fingers. The main left-hand image has a lightning bolt logo, a shaded owl, a winged golden snitch and a Platform 9 3/4 roundel, all in black ink and grey shading. The top-right and bottom-right panels show the words LADY and LUCK inked across knuckles and a fine, dense ornamental knot tattooed on a finger in black and grey.

Dear Tobias, your owl arrived at half past six with a singed wing and a note tucked under its leg that said only 'Fine, don't worry, the ball got away from me again.' I have read it forty times, which is thirty-nine more than your mother, who still believes you have been sensible since September. Tell me the truth about the bruise on your forehead, the one shaped like a zigzag. Your grandfather had one just like it after the war, and he never once told me where he got it.

Mr Pargeter at the corner shop still asks after you. He says the platform sign has been painted over since the council decided the old brick was a hazard, but he swears that on certain Tuesdays a boy with a trunk walks straight at the wall and comes out the other side. I told him that was nonsense. He gave me a bag of barley sugar for free anyway, so I am not sure which of us he thinks is the soft one.

Enclosed are gloves I knitted with the cuffs too tight, because you always said your hands went cold on broomsticks. Wear them on the pitch. Keep Pip warm and stop feeding her pastries. When that golden ball goes flying, let it go if it means coming home in one piece. I would rather have a boy with an empty broom than a boy with a fine record and no fingers.

Love, Aunt Hester

P.S. The grey owl you sketched on my kitchen calendar looks nothing like Pip. Tell her I said so.
