Harry Potter themed flash sheet
Traditional · Black and grey · Flash
A flash sheet on a white background showing several separate designs: a skull with a snake coiled through it at the centre, a wand, round glasses, a lightning bolt, a Deathly Hallows triangle symbol, the number 9 3/4, and three script phrases reading Lumos, Mischief Managed and Riddikulus. The linework is bold and clean, with the skull and snake shaded using solid black and fine hatching. The designs are arranged with generous spacing and no body part is shown.

Mabel Quarrie had swept the chapel of Caddow Keep for three days before the rain eased enough to reach the cellar steps. Ivy had dragged half the north wall down into the nave, and nobody in Thornbury wanted the job, so the parish gave it to the widow who never minded damp. Under a fall of mortar she found a tin box with a cracked hinge. Inside lay a pair of round spectacles folded over a stick of cedar no longer than her forearm.

The stick was knotted down its length like the spine of some small animal. She turned it in the thin light and found a mark pressed into the wood beside the grip: a triangle with a circle inside it and a single line running down the middle. Her grandfather had worn the same shape on a ring he never explained. Mabel pointed the stick at the cold lamp on the bench and said the word her mother used when the lamp would not catch. Nothing caught. Instead a bead of white light rose from the tip and hung in the air, humming, until she laughed aloud and it winked out.
She carried the box down to Ewan Dray at the forge that evening. He held the spectacles to the fire and grunted that the lenses were ground for a narrower face than any in the valley. "Somebody's lost a whole platform of things," he said, and offered a shilling. Mabel pocketed the coin and kept the stick.
The next morning she went back to the chapel with the wand in her apron pocket. Above the cellar door the stone carried a carved skull with a serpent coiled through its jaw, the eye sockets worn smooth by rain. She knelt, pulled the spectacles on over her own, and looked up at the old grin until it seemed to be grinning back at her, not at the ruin. Then she began to sweep again, humming the little tune she had heard in the bead of light.
