Deathly Hallows symbol with script quote
Black and grey · Flash
A drawing of the Deathly Hallows symbol, a triangle with a vertical line through a circle, sits above the script line "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good" with footprints trailing beneath. The outlines are clean and even, and the script has a flowing handwritten form. The design is in dark grey on white, centred with the symbol above and the text and footprints in a band below.

The snow had shut the north road by dusk, so the landlady of the Crooked Stoop laid one more place at the table without asking whose it was. Tam Rudd came in stamping, a sack on his back and ice in his beard, and he laughed at the empty chair. "Saves me knocking," he said, and sat before anyone could argue.

He was a thief by trade, though a cheerful one, and he had heard the tale of the three gifts Death once gave a man who beat him at dice: a cane of ash that never snapped, a stone that could call back a loved one for an hour, and a cloak that hid its wearer from every eye, including the one that was looking for him. Tam wanted the cloak. He said so loudly enough for the fire to hear, and the fire, being old and bored, crackled back.
Nell, the innkeeper's daughter, rolled her eyes and told him the cloak had gone into the ground with the dice-player's grandson, the stone was a pebble in the churchyard, and the cane had been used to prod pigs for thirty years. "Then you've walked a long way for nothing," she said. Tam winked, took the ash cane from the umbrella stand, and walked out into the blizzard, planting it hard in the drift at every step.
Morning came clean and blue. The shutters opened on a field of white, and across it ran a line of footprints, deep and even, each one tapping a small hollow into the snow. They went out from the door and kept going. None came back. Upright in the drift by the gate stood the ash cane, its tip already grey with frost, and Nell hung it above the hearth and never once let anyone sit in the chair by the fire.
