Headphones and script on a forearm
Realism · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A pair of over-ear headphones with a looping cable is shaded in black and grey on the forearm, with smooth gradients on the ear cups and headband. Below the headphones, the cursive script words "Addicted to music" run diagonally along the arm in fine black linework. The photograph is taken straight on against a dark background, so the design sits clearly in the frame.

"Still can't hear a thing without them," he said, before she'd said hello. "Weddings mostly now. Nobody wants a request from a man who had a mixtape career in Year Eleven."
She remembered the tape. Maxell, sellotape on the spine, Dev's capitals in biro saying GEMMA - LISTEN TO ALL OF IT. She had listened to all of it, sitting on the bottom stair of her mum's house with the volume turned down so the walls wouldn't hear. She had never told him the last track had played so many times the tape had stretched and gone warbly on the chorus.
"I kept it," she said. "It's in a shoebox. It doesn't work."
He lifted the headphones off his neck and held them out, the cups still warm from the lamp on the table. She put one cup to her ear. Across the hall a dad was shouting about the bouncy castle, and the tinny song leaked out of the other cup, thin and familiar. Dev fed the cable across the trestle until it was pulled tight between them, and neither of them moved to let go of it.
