Hello Kitty traditional flash sheet
Traditional · Colour · Flash
A printed flash sheet of numbered tattoo designs, most featuring the Hello Kitty character alongside classic motifs such as roses, a dagger, a heart, a red telephone, an umbrella, a rocking horse and a cupcake. The designs use bold black outlines with flat, solid colour fills in red, green, yellow and blue. The sheet is shown at a slight angle on a pale background, with the phrases HUG LIFE and FRIENDS FOREVER printed among the artwork.

Sit down, the lot of you, and stop pulling at the tarp. It is older than your grandmothers and it does not care for grubby hands. Yes, that is the sheet. Mind the numbers along the edge, they tell you the order the old inkers wanted their pictures picked. Forty-one is the cat holding an umbrella up against a rain that never came. Thirty-six is the one in the horseshoe, with a bow the size of her head.

Your great-grandmother Ines said the paper came out of a box under the bridge at Ashford, wrapped in a drowned coat, and that the man who drew it had written HUG LIFE across the top in letters so thick they looked pressed in by a thumb. Nobody in the Dunes knew what a hug was. We had to be told, and then we practised on the goats.
Ines copied the cat with the rocking horse onto her own forearm, then the dagger with the ribbon, and every spring after the sandstorms she walked out to the wall and laid her arm against the bleached sheet to check the lines had held. She said the black outlines were the only thing in the world that had not changed since before the Burning. The red had faded and the yellow had gone to cream, but the edges stayed firm, the way a friend's voice stays firm after everyone else has gone quiet.
So when the wind comes up tonight, and it will, pull the tarp over the sheet and tuck your own arms under your coats. Keep the cat between you and the cold. FRIENDS FOREVER is not a promise anyone can keep, but it is a good line to say over a fire, and that is worth more than most of what we were promised.
