Full sleeve realism tattoo on an arm with horror-style portraits, a skull mask, a silhouetted figure and orange flames, with lettering at the lower wrist.

Horror-themed realism sleeve with fire background

Realism · Upper arm · Mixed · Photo

A full sleeve tattoo wraps the arm from shoulder to wrist, with a long-haired demonic figure at the top, a woman's face on the left, an older man's face on the right, and a skull-like mask figure lower down. Smooth shading and detailed skin tones give the faces a realistic, painted look, while a fiery orange and red backdrop runs through the lower half. The composition is vertical and dense, with a dark silhouette and lettering at the bottom edge.

Dear Nell, the hoarding came down on Tuesday, the whole row of painted boards the council had been calling a fire hazard for a decade. Mr Okafor sent a crew from the scrapyard on Dock Lane and they tore the boards off the back wall of the Regal like they were peeling plaster. Underneath, nobody expected the fire. Someone had painted a sunset in orange and red to hide the damp, and it had been hiding the damp for thirty years.

I stayed late to sweep the booth and watched from the top of the fire stairs. The old man's face, the one with the grey stubble and the eyes like wet slate, came down last. He had watched the corner of Hallgate since before either of us was born, watching the 14 bus and the drunks spilling out of the Crown. When the board hit the pavement the street went quiet, and a lad with a lighter stopped mid-flick and said, 'Bloody hell, they're not finished.'

They were not. Behind the painted flames, in faint pencil under the orange, someone had drawn a skull-faced figure in a doorway and a silhouette of a man walking away with a suitcase. I took a photo for you on my phone. It came out blurred, but you can make out the pencil lines.

Come home Friday. The projector still works, and I've been thinking we should throw the old reel onto the bare brick before the developers arrive. Bring your big torch. The wall is nearly bare now, and the fire it was hiding is starting to show through.
