"I will see you again" script with three birds
Fine line · Back · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo reads I will see you again in a flowing cursive script, with three small bird silhouettes in flight above the words. The lettering and birds are rendered in thin, even black linework with solid fill. The ink sits on smooth, lightly tanned skin across the upper back, with the design framed in soft natural light.

There were three that morning, tilting and dropping to keep up, and she watched until the sky over the Wolds swallowed them whole.

Tom was in the tack room with his kitbag open on the saddle horse, folding jumpers he would not need until Catterick. He had a bus at half seven and a face that said he had already rehearsed the goodbye in his head and did not want to do it again out loud. Mum had packed him sandwiches in greaseproof paper. Nell took the stub of pencil from behind the feed-store door and wrote "I will see you again" on the back of an invoice for barley, the letters leaning the way Granddad's used to.
He read it and gave the short laugh he used when he didn't trust the other kind. "That's not how it works. Birds don't do promises." "These ones do," she said, and tapped the page where she had drawn three small strokes above the words, wings out, the way the geese had flown. He folded it twice and tucked it in his inside pocket beside the bus ticket, and they walked out together into the grey light.
