Japanese full sleeve with flowers and waves
Japanese · Upper arm · Mixed · Photo
A full sleeve tattoo covers the upper arm and forearm of a person wearing a white vest top. Pink flowers and grey clouds sit near the shoulder, with blue waves, a purple lotus and red and orange foliage running down towards the elbow. Outlines are bold and shading is smooth, and the bright colours stand out against the dark background.

The morning Mrs Okafor came in with her grandson's school cake order, she brought a sketch on the back of a parish newsletter: a purple lotus on blue water, pink blossoms, clouds stacked like cream. "Can you make it look like that?" she asked. Dad laughed and said we'd make it look like a pond. I spent three nights piping sugar waves onto a board, then watching them slump, then starting again.
At half past five the sky over the car park turned the colour of weak tea and the first bus rattled past. I carried the board out to the counter, still tacky, and the boy with the bus pass stopped dead and pressed his face to the glass. Dad said nothing. He just tore a corner off a loaf still hot from the tin and handed it to me.
We never did get the clouds right, and the lotus leaned towards the wrong edge. But Mrs Okafor took it home in a box lined with greaseproof, and two weeks later a photo arrived of the cake half eaten, the blue icing smeared right to the rim of the plate like a tide going out.
