Leopard face in black and grey realism
Realism · Shoulder · Black and grey · Photo
A large leopard face fills the frame, with detailed eyes, a shaded nose and whiskers rendered in fine strokes. Spots and fur markings are built from dark stippled and shaded areas that fade into the lighter skin around the edges. The piece is entirely in black and grey ink, and the close crop shows the tattoo covering most of the visible skin.

Her father had always said no one sleeps under this roof with the latch lifted. But the cat looked at her with pale, patient eyes, so she lifted the latch anyway. It folded itself down beside the hearth and watched the room the way a miller watches the sky.
Three carters and a wool merchant named Anton Vogel were snowed in with her. Vogel had cheated the valley farmers all autumn, pressing his thumb on the scale when they weren't looking. Each time he glanced at the leopard, it was already looking back, and he had to turn to the fire. By the second night he sat on the bench with his purse clutched in his lap, and the carters began to notice how little he ate.
On the third morning the road was cut open by the ploughmen. The leopard rose, shook a cloud of snow from its coat, and walked out without a sound. Vogel found his purse on the hearthstone, every coin stacked in a neat column, and the scales in the corner tipped toward the farmers' side.
