Realistic lion head portrait tattoo
Realism · Other · Black and grey · Photo
A detailed lion head faces forward with a full, shaggy mane framing the face and eyes. The work uses soft shading and fine texture to build the fur, nose, whiskers and muzzle, with strong darks in the mane. The image is in black and grey with no colour ink, and the design fills most of the frame against a pale background.

Nobody could say who had put it there. Mr Pardoe, Mrs Pardoe said, had won it in a card game in Dover in 1931, and that was the end of the explanation.

You took to eating your toast under it. The eyes were the thing. Whichever way you shifted on the hard chair, they seemed to have settled on you first, patient and faintly disappointed, the way the headmaster used to look at a boy who had lied about his homework. On the Thursday a squall came in off the Channel and rattled the sashes, the lamp flickered, and when it steadied you saw that Mrs Pardoe was standing in the doorway with a tea towel over her shoulder, looking up at the picture with an expression you had not seen on her before.
"He came off a travelling show's lorry the summer of the big storm," she said. "Nobody wanted him. Mr Pardoe kept him in the back yard for a month before the council started asking questions."
You waited, because the lion seemed to be waiting too.
"Mane was longer then," she said, and went back to the kitchen, leaving you alone with the thing she had loved more than the husband who hung it up.
