Lumberjack themed flash sheet
Traditional · Black and grey · Flash
A monochrome flash sheet of lumberjack-themed designs in brown line work on a cream background, with the word TIMBER across the top. Motifs include a standing bear in a rayed frame, a log cabin among pines under the banner HOME SWEET HOME, a pin-up woman holding a two-person saw, a log truck, an axe in a stump, an eagle with wings above a union banner, and a bearded man with the word BEWARE. Shading is solid line work with hatching, and the layout places framed portraits, hearts, pine sprigs and banners around the central designs.

Pull your stools in and mind the bear, he has been at the cider again. You want the tale of the last cabin above Cwm Hollow? My gran told it to me the winter the rain came back sideways, and she swore on the union banner that every word was true, which is how you know she was lying about at least half.

There were no trees left by then, only old stumps and a rusted log truck the Loggers' Union kept running on pride and bad petrol. The union had a rule, carved over the hall door: every feller carries a saw, an axe and a debt. Ada Pell carried the big two-handed saw because nobody else could make it sing alone. She went out along the dead road with a pocket of pine cones, pressing them into the cracks, and the cones grew wherever they pleased.
Then old Hob Garrow came down off the ridge with his beard full of frost, shouting BEWARE at anyone who would listen. He swore a bear with a golden halo sat on the porch of the last cabin standing, paws pressed together like a deacon at prayer. Ada loaded the truck with salvaged beams, drove up through the drifts, and found the bear exactly as described. It did not growl. It bowed its head, held the door open with one paw, and waited for her to light the stove. They drank the cider together until the frost crept off the glass.
In spring she came back with the saw and found the cabin gone soft and green, a sapling pushing up through the floorboards. The bear was gone too, but a pine cone sat on the step, warm as bread, and beside it stood a tin cup of cider nobody had touched. That is why the cider is ours and the bear is owed a round. Now drink up, and do not go near the ridge without a debt in your pocket.
