Matching lighter and joint hand tattoos

Traditional · Forearm · Colour · Photo

Two matching tattoos sit on forearms, one showing a hand holding a lighter with a flame and the other a hand holding a rolled joint. Each includes a cannabis leaf, a pink flower and a cream banner reading BEST and BUDS. Bold black outlines and flat colour fills in red, blue, green and yellow give a classic traditional look.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

The lamp at Carrow Point had gone out twice that week, and Dad's knees had gone out for good on the Tuesday, so it fell to me and Bea Sallow to climb the ninety-one iron steps with a can of paraffin and a box of matches. Bea carried the lighter. She always carried the lighter. It was blue and scuffed, with a dent where she'd dropped it off the harbour wall the summer we were twelve, and she held it up to the glass of the lamp room like it was something worth showing off.

The mantle caught on the third try, a small yellow bloom that swelled and went white at the edges. Bea said it looked like a pub sign, bright and promising, and I told her to stop being daft and check the clockwork. Dad's rota was taped inside the door in his square capitals. Beside my name he'd written HAND, and beside hers he'd written BUDS, because she'd been running his supplies and his crosswords since she was nine, and he thought that was the funniest thing in the county.

The fog came in off the Scar just after two, thick as wet wool, and the lamp turned its slow arm through it. Somewhere out past the rocks a trawler's engine slowed, then a voice came back across the water, thin and grateful, asking where the channel was. Bea leaned on the rail and called out the bearing, and I wrote it in the log in my own careful hand.

Dad heard the horn settle into its rhythm from his chair below and shouted up that the kettle was on. Bea shouted back that we'd want two cups, and neither of us mentioned the matches.
