Matching stick figure tattoos on forearms
Fine line · Forearm · Mixed · Photo
Two forearms show simple black line drawings of stick figures, one in a polka dot dress and one in a striped dress, each with a small red heart on the chest. The linework is thin and even, with the figures set apart on bare skin against a plain white background. Black ink dominates, with the red hearts as the only colour accents.

Dear Ines,

The survey crew finished the ridge line on Tuesday, and you will never guess what Pell found at the far end of the basin. Two stick figures, drawn in the grey regolith with a fingertip, each about the height of my knee. One wears a dress covered in dots, the other a dress of stripes, and both have a small red heart on the chest where someone dabbed on ochre paste from the greenhouse. Nobody on the crew admits to it. The paste had been mixed for the seedbeds, and somebody clearly had a sense of humour.
They stand a stride apart, arms out as if reaching for each other and have just been told to stop. The ridge runs straight through the gap between them, and I think whoever drew them knew that. The mapping drone had flown over the spot three times before anyone looked closely, which says something about how easily a thing can hide in plain sight when it is small enough.
Pell wanted to bag the figures and log them as a survey anomaly. I said no. We surveyed around them instead, and the boundary stake now sits exactly between the two hands, so the team has to step over the line to reach either side.
Last night I went out with a torch and found a third figure, very small, drawn in the dust beside the stake. It has no dress at all, just a wobbly line for a body, and it is holding on to both of them. I have not told anyone yet. I think it will look better in the morning, when the light comes up over the rim.
Write back soon, and tell Mama the seedbeds are finally doing well.
Love, Tove
