Matching script quotes on two forearms
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
Two separate forearms are shown, each carrying a short phrase in thin, cursive black script. The upper line reads my sun and stars and the lower line reads moon of my life, both set horizontally along the forearm. The lettering is fine and even on pale skin, and the photograph is taken from a close angle with a dark knitted cuff visible at the right edge.

The wedding was in six weeks, in the chapel at Halsey Bay, where the tide came in under the pier and wet the hymn sheets. They had agreed on the matching lettering at a damp little studio above the chip shop on Mill Row, the artist asking them to hold still while she traced the words in pencil first. Sun and stars for Dorothy, because she had always been the one who wanted the light on, and moon of my life for Marguerite, because someone had to keep the tides honest.
When Dorothy finally slid the timetable across, the sentence on the back was short and crooked and perfectly plain. Marguerite read it twice, then took a biro from the jar and wrote underneath, in the careful hand she had learned from her aunt, that she would wear it on the inside of her wrist where the knitted cuff of her cardigan would hide it until the vows.
Dorothy laughed and reached across the table, and the kettle, forgotten, began to scream.
