Mountains, pines and a dotted sun on the back
Dotwork · Back · Mixed · Photo
The tattoo shows a mountain range with pine trees beneath a dotted circle, possibly a sun or moon, set inside a triangle and a diamond outline. A loose orange and red ring with a watercolour look surrounds the central circle. The mountains are built from hatched and shaded black linework, while the ring uses soft colour washes.

At eleven minutes past eleven the light on Carrow Tor went thin and grey, as if someone had breathed on the lens of the day. Wenna Pryce stood on the platform with the logbook open against the rail and wrote the time down before she looked up, because that was the rule her father had taught her. The pines below the ridge had stopped moving. Even the ravens had gone quiet.

The moon slid across the sun the way a thumb slides over a coin. Where the disc had been there was a black hole ringed with fire, orange at the top and bleeding to red where the light caught the stone. The almanac had described the colours but not the sound, a faint hush like snow settling on canvas. Far below, the valley road was a pale thread, and on it a van had stopped with its door open, and a small figure was waving a white sheet over its head.
The radio on her belt hissed. Dafydd from the depot said the relief could not get up the switchbacks before dark, the slip at Cwm Du had taken the bridge, and she was to keep the watch until the morning crew came. She said she understood. She did not say that she had been counting on the rest, or that the kettle had been empty since dawn.
When the sun came back it did so in a rush, a bright edge first, and the ring broke into streaks of gold. Wenna dipped her brush in the ink she used for the grid marks and painted a small dot in the margin of the log for each pine she could count, then wrote beside them: Eclipse, 11:11. Watched it all. Nothing lost but the afternoon.
