One Life Live It script on ribs
Lettering · Ribs · Black and grey · Photo
The image shows a close crop of a torso with the words One Life on the upper line and Live It on the lower line in flowing black script. The linework is smooth and even in weight, with minimal shading, and the ink reads as solid black against warm skin. The black lace edge of a bra runs across the top of the frame, and the lettering sits diagonally across the ribcage.

Tom, the kettle has boiled dry twice while I wrote this, so forgive the smudges. Mrs Pellow downstairs insists on reading the post before it leaves the hall, so I've kept the worst of my news to myself and sent you only the weather.

The weather here is wretched. Gulls sit on every chimney like disappointed landladies, and the Halsey boys went out past the breakwater on Tuesday against their father's orders. They came back at dusk with eleven mackerel and no shame whatsoever. I sat on the harbour wall with my knees up and thought about what you said at the station, that I should stop waiting for somebody to hand me permission. Dad wrote last week asking when I'd be home. I've sent back one line and crossed out so many drafts that the paper has gone thin as tissue.
Yesterday I bought a fountain pen from the stall by the chandler's, the one with the cracked green barrel, and spent an hour copying the sampler from Gran's kitchen out of my head. You remember it: faded red thread above the range, the letters all leaning into each other as though they were gossiping. I've got most of it right, though I keep wanting to end the second line with a question mark.
The ferry leaves at seven on Thursday. I've told Mrs Pellow she may keep my good umbrella, which I think is the closest thing to a blessing she's ever given anyone. Meet me at the pier if you can manage it, and bring a heavier coat than you think you need. The sea is grey this week, but I've seen it turn blue for an hour at a time, and I intend to be on it when it does.
